My native town
I’d like to tell you about my native town. It is Vladivostok. Vladivostok was founded in June 20, 1860 on the shore of Gold Horn bay in the Gulf of Peter the Great. So ended a great cause beginner by Earmark, followed by Habarov and other Russia explorers.
Vladivostok is not an old city. In 2005 it will be celebrate only 145 anniversaries. Like people, cities have their jobs and lives… This city was conceived as Russia’s outpost by the Pacific Ocean and it has been so ever since. No wonder it was named Vladivostok (literally, “own the East”).
Vladivostok, a city scattered among hills on the edge of Russia.
There are no straight streets here. They dart in all directions following the ups and down of hills and hollows. An avenue is an abstract notion here. It reflects wishful thinking rather then reality.
Many famous people bathed, lived and worked in Vladivostok. Alexander Fadeev, a famous Soviet writer (The Debacle, The Young Guards). A well-known American actor Jul Brynner, an Oscar laureate, who played in the famous film “The Magnificent Seven” was born in Vladivostok. Famous admiral G.I. Nevelskoy was lived and died in Vladivostok. N.M. Prezevalsky famous Russian geographer was to the Ussuri Region that he made his first journey in 1867-1869. V.K. Arseniev lived and works here. His famous work “Dersu Uzala” was writing here.
History of Vladivostok not long, but saturated. The Russian-Japanese War, revolution of 1905-1907, World War 1, October revolution, civil war, World War 2 – live its marks on history or city.
